PDU Overview:
PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) supports the ongoingprofessional development of Project Management Professionals (PMPs) andthe maintenance of PMP certification. The measures used to quantifythese requirements are called Professional Development Units (PDU's).Generally, one PDU is the equivalent of one hour spent in an activityapproved by PMI for meeting CCR.

The Atlanta Chapter, as a Registered Education Provider (REP), mayassign PDU's for certain Chapter educational activities. These PDU'smust be registered with PMI before they can be reported by PMPs. Thispage provides information about PDU's that may be earned by attendingspecified Atlanta Chapter educational activities. Other PDUs may beearned by volunteering for Chapter activities or responsibilities. These are not currently covered on this page, but are determined byChapter Officers, based on PMI rules.

PDU's for Articles - DID YOU KNOW?
Many Project Management Institute (PMI) component organizations havebeen requesting confirmation that Project Management Professionals(PMP) can receive Professional Development Units (PDU's) forsubmissions, covering a project management topic, which are publishedin a component newsletter. After review, these activities have beenapproved for credit based on the educational experience gained throughthe research devoted to composing these submissions. PMP's may claimcredit for a published newsletter submission as a Self-directedLearning PDU activity.

To do so, PMP's should identify the time spent in review of theeducational resources used to prepare the submission. After publicationin the newsletter, they may submit a PDU category 2sdl claim earningone PDU for each hour spent conducting this research. This same methodcan be used to earn PDU's for submissions on a project management topicthat are published in a corporate newsletter.

More information on Self-directed Learning PDU's can be found on pagefive of the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) handbook. Thehandbook can be downloaded from the PMI Web site (http://www.pmi.org/) or requested in printed form by contacting PMI's customer service department at pmihq@pmi.org or +1-610-356-4600. Active PMI Members may request materials directly from the PMI Web site (https://secure.pmi.org/requestinfo/).
